The first season of Sean Howard’s terrific and ppopular web comic, A Modest Destiny, was set to be released as an iPhone / iPod touch application. A free version of the app, containing the first 57 comics, was submitted to the App Store for review. Yesterday, Howard posted an update:

Apple has rejected the app for content that is “obscene, pornographic, offensive, or defamatory”. I’ll leave it up to the reader as an exercise as to what, in the first 57 comics, fits that bill.

What, among the pixel graphics and humorous dialogue, could have been so terrible as to offend the App Store reviewers? It turns out that it was this:

Apparently, they took offense at Maxim’s use of the phrase “kicked in the nuts”.

For what it’s worth, this is not the first time an app has been rejected for containing content whose questionability is questionable.

Apple, please stop being silly.
